Experiment summary
This study performed a GWAS of coronary plaque burden (segment involvement score) in 24,811 European individuals, identifying 20 independent loci (three novel to ASCVD), compared results with coronary artery calcification and carotid plaque GWAS, and used Mendelian randomization to show that each additional atherosclerotic coronary segment corresponds to ~1.8-fold higher odds of myocardial infarction.
