Experiment summary

This study analyzed genetic associations for the phenotypes listed above in a group of subjects of southern Han Chinese ancestry residing in Hong Kong. Type 2 diabetic patients were recruited from the Hong Kong Diabetes Register (HKDR) which was established as a quality improvement program at the Prince of Wales Hospital at the Chinese University of Hong Kong since 1995. These patients were referred from hospital-based specialty clinics, community clinics, and general practitioners between 1995 and 2007. The Register consecutively enrolled patients with diabetes who were referred to the Diabetes Mellitus and Endocrine Centre for comprehensive assessment of diabetic complications and metabolic control. T2D-free control group subjects were either selected randomly from a territory-wide health awareness and promotion program or were recruited from the community for pharmacogenetics studies in hypertension and dyslipidaemia. Whole genome genotyping of samples was supported by the Research Grants Council Theme-based Research Scheme in 2014-2018.
